SwedenBIO comments on parties’ investments in life science

The magazine Life Science Sweden has asked seven parliamentary parties to answer questions about how they want to invest in Swedish life science. SwedenBIO has subsequently commented on the proposals.

Overall, the political commitment to life sciences is high, which is very positive. Investments in life science and medical research have been made in recent years and have laid a good foundation. However, there is still no clear and coordinated plan covering all policy areas related to life sciences.

SwedenBIO wants to see policies such as:

  • Bringing the three policy areas of industry, research and healthcare together in a long-term and powerful way through a minister responsible for life sciences.
  • Review government venture capital and strengthen support for companies in the high-risk phase where they need 10-50 million to verify their research and refine the product.
  • Gives Swedish healthcare more room to participate in the development of next generation treatments and incentives for healthcare to invest in new innovations.
  • Has increased focus on retaining and attracting high-tech production in Sweden.
