In the government declaration presented on 3 October, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven reiterated his plans for an innovation council and the reindustrialization of Sweden. Life science is already an explicitly prioritized area in this work and we look forward to a good dialogue so that it is designed in the best possible way.
The ambition to coordinate the overall efforts for innovation directly under the Prime Minister is promising as it requires the coordination of several different policy areas. Similarly, SwedenBIO hopes that the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation is given a clear mandate to coordinate the specific initiatives that are now required to strengthen Swedish life science.
The fact that the new government wants to continue to invest in making Sweden a leading research nation is also an important signal, as Swedish life science is largely based on strong and independent academic research.
SwedenBIO welcomes the new ministers who are now responsible for the policy areas that affect life science. In particular, we look forward to a continued dialog with Mikael Damberg, Minister for Enterprise and Innovation, Helene Hellmark Knutsson, Minister for Higher Education and Research, Gabriel Wikström, Minister for Public Health, Healthcare and Sport, and Magdalena Andersson, Minister for Finance.
