London Life Sciences Week: Strong Networking Without Crossing the Pond

London Life Sciences Week is proof that Swedish CEOs don’t need to cross the big pond for great networking. With more than 1,300 investors and 2,400 biotechs attending, the eventful week offers many of the opportunities found across the Atlantic, but much closer to home.

Taking place in November, during the Jefferies Global Healthcare Conference, the week brings together a multitude of events and partnering opportunities. The 2025 programme featured over 70 satellite events across London’s Covent Garden, Aldwych, and Holborn, supported by a free networking app.

Anchored by the Jefferies European Healthcare Conference, which annually attracts around 1,300 life science investors, the week aims to shine a global spotlight on London’s dynamic ecosystem. This year opened with a “Welcome to London” reception and continued with curated satellite events showcasing the city’s strengths in life sciences.

Launched in 2024, London Life Sciences Week is coordinated by the UK BioIndustry Association, MedCity, and London & Partners. The initiative is funded by the UK Government and supported by the City of London.

To understand what Swedish companies gain from attending, we spoke with three participants from the 2025 edition: Jonas Båtelson, CEO of CuraCell; Esther Sklarsky, investment professional at Sound Bioventures; and Martin Jönsson, CEO of AlzeCure Pharma.

“A great stage to showcase your company

Jonas Båtelson, CEO of CuraCell, attended with the aim of broadening the company’s visibility and generating interest among investors and partners ahead of its planned financing round in H2 2026, an objective he describes as fully achieved.

“I’m happy that our preparatory work paid off in several good meetings. In addition, we got several other dialogues started as a result of our showcase presentation and our reach-out through the partnering platform,” he says, adding: “This meeting attracts the bulk of the VCs in Europe so it’s great stage if you want to showcase your company and get one2one meetings with your target investor group.”

What was the highlight of the week?

“Although meeting investors is my main aim, I like to use these events to get inspiration and reference points from other biotech leaders with examples of how to position, execute and win. The learnings that I bring home come largely from sideline chats with other CEO colleagues.”

What is your advice for Swedish companies considering attending?

“Simply, do attend! The screening and meeting format of the biotech industry is so streamlined and canalized to these events. Considering not to is not an option. Still, breaking through the noise is tough. Preparations improve your chances, but coming back is even more important. It certainly pays off to be persistent.”

“A highlight of the year”

For Esther Sklarsky, investment professional at Sound Bioventures, London Life Sciences Week is becoming a standout part of her annual calendar. Her focus this year was to meet new companies and reconnect with teams she already follows, a goal she says was more than fulfilled.

“Participating in a panel at the LSX Investival was definitely a standout moment. Beyond that, the many insightful conversations over coffee, lunch, and dinner made the week particularly rewarding,” she says.

She highlights the concentration of both European and American investors as a major advantage, particularly for those who already have initial relationships in place.

“Just be prepared: outside of Monday’s LSX Investival, there isn’t a central partnering platform, so arranging meetings requires a bit of extra planning. However, the effort is well worth it,” she adds.

“Truly great and rewarding to attend”

For Martin Jönsson, CEO of AlzeCure Pharma, the week provided an important platform for meeting pharma companies, investors, and partners, both to advance ongoing dialogues and to establish new ones. The company’s nomination for the European LifeStar Awards (Post-IPO Raise of the Year category) added further momentum to their presence.

“Another reason we attended is that AlzeCure was nominated to and shortlisted for a prize in the European LifeStar Awards in the category Post-IPO Raise of the Year,” he says.

Do you have advice for Swedish companies considering attending?

“It is truly great and rewarding to attend the LLSW, I can recommend it. The number of attendees is growing,” he says, noting that he plans to attend again next year.

His practical guidance is straightforward: plan early and be active. “Book as many relevant meetings as possible and as early as possible. Attending the evening events is always great since it opens up for meeting new contacts in a nice and relaxed setting, and to meet people you otherwise wouldn’t have met.”
